The Sirimon Route is an accessible and enjoyable hiking route on Mount Kenya and well within the capabilities of fit hill walkers, offering a varied trek from the cultivated lowlands, through unique glacier-sculpted alpine heath and up to jagged volcanic peaks and glistening glaciers near the peak of Point Lenana.

This Mount Kenya climbing route is much more scenic than Naro Moru route. 4-day Sirimon route is on the drier side of the mountain which offers some of the finest walking. Climbing up through forest into a wide ridge approach to the summit area. The route starts on the northwest side of the mountain near Nanyuki Town. Access is adequate and the bunk house facilities are the best on this side of the mountain.

The summit at Lenana Peak can be reached in 4 days hiking as per the below itinerary. However, we recommend an overnight acclimatization at the base in Nanyuki town. Mount Kenya Climbing Expeditions can helps in arranging for an extra day at an additional fee.

Day 1: Day 1: Nairobi – Nanyuki/Old Moses

Depart from Nairobi and transfer to Nanyuki arriving after around three hours for lunch in Nanyuki. Then transfer to Sirimon Gate and hike up to Old Moses Camp for dinner and overnight. 9km, 3 – 4 hours hike.

Day 2: Old Moses – Shimptons Camp

After breakfast, hike up to Shimptons Camp, 4200m, through Liki and Mackinders Valley for overnight stay. 17km, 6 – 8 hours hike

Day 3: Shimptons Camp – Point Lenana – Judmaier Camp (OldMoses)

Leave Shimptons camp at around 2:30 am up a steep stony quarry that cuts through a cliff clearing visible parts of Lower Hall Tarns arriving at Point Lenana at 6:30 am, taking about three hours. Later descend to Shimptons Camp for breakfast and descent further for four hours to Old Moses Camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Judmaier Camp – Sirimon – Nairobi

After breakfast, walk down through the rainforest for two hours to connect with your transport vehicle back to Nairobi.
